Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for admission into the B.S. in Professional Studies program?
Although each student’s application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, the department of Enrollment Management does require students to have 24 previous college credits, and a minimum 2.5 college GPA.

Will all of my credits transfer into the Professional Studies program?
Credit transfers are done on a course-by-course basis, and can vary from program to program. Only grades of “C” or above will be considered for transfer (a “C-” is not transferable). The Professional Studies program is, however, a transfer-friendly program, allowing for a sizeable number of credits to be brought in as electives.

How will I know for which courses I will need to register?
All Professional Studies students are assigned an academic advisor. All new students must register through their advisor for their first term. Additionally, all students are provided with a curriculum sheet so that they may track their academic progress through to graduation.

What if I have not attended school for a number of years? What services are provided to new students?
All students are assigned an academic advisor to help them navigate through their academic career. Also, all Professional Studies students are required to take CAT 200 Strategies for Lifelong Learning, a course that aids new and returning students with re-adjusting to the demands of college. A full listing of student services can be found on Drexel University’s main website.

Who should choose Professional Studies? How does it differ from General Studies?
Professional Studies students are what we like to consider “Creative Leaders”. They are professionals in their chosen field who are looking for an opportunity to move up in the ranks of their organization. The Professional Studies curriculum is more prescribed than the General Studies curriculum, with a specific list of courses that aids students in achieving their professional goals.

Will I produce a final thesis or portfolio that I will be able to show off to potential employers and/or graduate schools?
Yes. In fact, all students finish the Professional Studies program by completing a two course series entitled PRST 491 Professional Portfolio I and PRST 492 Professional Portfolio II. This project synthesizes all of the knowledge that students have acquired throughout their course of study. Students work closely with a member of our faculty to bring their undergraduate studies to culmination.

Am I able to earn credits for learning from my work or life experience?

There is an Assessment of Prior Learning process. Please speak to your academic advisor for more information.

How long will it take me to finish my degree?
This answer varies from student to student. It depends on both the number of credits a student transfers into the program, and the number of courses a student takes per term.

In which delivery formats is the B.S. in Professional Studies program available?
Students can earn their degree as part of our Saturday Scholars® program.
