Academic Bistro Hosts Avocado Recipe Contest, June 3

Drexel University’s Hospitality Management, Culinary, and Food Science students vied for $1,500 in prizes for preparing and serving their original avocado recipes at the Academic Bistro on June 3.

Sponsored by the Hass Avocado Board, the recipes had to incorporate fresh Haas avocados and were judged on flavor, originality and overall presentation by a panel of five judges including celebrity chef Christina Pirello and food and lifestyle journalist Edward Bottone, also Drexel instructors.

Jessica Leung, pictured above, won first place ($750) with her Avocado Plantain Chip Trio. Second place ($500) went to Zack Goldstein for his Bacon Wrapped Tortilla. Rob Fournier’s Spring Rolls and Chris Paul’s Haitian Revolution Maki tied for third place ($125 each).
