In collaboration with the Carpenter's Company and Independence National Historic Park (part of the National Park Service), Goodwin College’s Historic Preservation Leading Edge Network is presenting a Master Builder Dialogues event, "Preserving America." The forum, geared toward architects, engineers, builders, and individuals with a professional passion for historic preservation, takes place at Carpenter’s Hall (320 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106) on October 27-28, 2011.
Through discussions and walking tours of some of Philadelphia’s iconic buildings, attendees will become familiar with preservation issues, best practices, and methodologies. Tours and discussions will focus on Independence Hall, the PSFS/Loews building, and Christ Church. Leading these discussions are world-renowned practitioners Nick Gianopulos, Art Jones, John Milner, John Robbins, and Robert Silman, among others. Each of the site visits and discussions presents a different lesson in preservation, including adaptive reuse, historic preservation decision making and construction, and engineering problem solving. The schedule also allows for attendees to embark on self-guided walking tours of Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood. Registration for the two-day event is now open at CarpentersHall.org.
