The Digital Games Learning Network is pleased to announce a four-part seminar series. The series will begin with a seminar on November 2, entitled "Current Trends and Effective Assessment for Digital Games" followed by seminars on January 17, March 22, and May 17. The seminar series brings some of the best minds conducting research and investigating digital games and virtual technologies and their role in teaching, learning, and assessment. All students, faculty, and learning technology staff in Drexel University and surrounding universities may attend the seminar series free of cost.
The seminar series will educate those conducting research on games and digital media for learning, and those thinking about media and learning or who have an interest in games and learning. It will cover the current trends in the field of game-based learning, emerging assessments, augmented reality games, and ground-breaking theories that are affecting how games and other technologies are integrated into schools with content and pedagogy.
The first seminar on November 2 will be held at the Mitchell Auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m. Dr. Chris Dede from Harvard University opens the series with a focus on effective assessment approaches for learning with digital games and virtual worlds and the implication of new technologies for teaching and learning in the 21st century. Using his knowledge of the new National Educational Technology Plan, his work with the virtual world River City, and his experience in assessment, Dr. Dede will discuss issues on the horizon with assessments in game environments and what we should be doing with games and virtual worlds to prepare learners for the 21st century.
