Goodwin’s Center for Prevention of School-Aged Violence Presents 2nd Annual Focus on Prevention Awards

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 9, 2011)--The Center for the Prevention of School-Aged Violence at Drexel University presents the Second Annual Focus on Prevention Awards on June 1 in Mitchell Auditorium at Bossone Research Center. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a screening of "Combating Conflict with Character: Dealing With Bullying," the first episode in a five-part series produced by Real Arts Media. The screening is followed by a panel discussion and question-and-answer session.

The awards reception, at 7 p.m., honors the Asian Students Association of Philadelphia; Greg Corbin, executive director of Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement; Robert L. Jarvis, Ph.D., director of K-12 outreach and University of Pennsylvania Delaware Valley Minority Student Achievement Consortium; and Anne Marie Ambrose, Commissioner of the Department of Human Services for the City of Philadelphia.

The mission of the Center for the Prevention of School-Aged Violence is to create public awareness around the need for youth-focused, evidence-based efforts aimed at preventing youth violence from occurring in environments where youth grow, learn, and recreate.
