Goodwin Offers Judiciary Interpreting Program Starting This Fall

In the past two decades, the number of foreign-born U.S. residents has grown; Latinos now represent the largest group with limited English proficiency. As a result, demand has grown for judiciary interpreters who understand the legal process, and who can effectively communicate with and for individuals in the legal system in need of language assistance.

Drexel University’s Judiciary Interpreting Program allows individuals proficient in English and Spanish to prepare for the Pennsylvania State Court Interpreter Certification exams. Upon completion of the course, students are prepared to enter any legal environment and effectively and accurately translate and interpret.

The program, which is broken down into eight modules, covers judicial procedure, modes of interpretation, ethical practices, and the important roles interpreters play in the courtroom.

The course takes places Saturdays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., from Sept. 24 – Nov. 12.
