PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 9, 2011)-Drexel Learning Games Network welcomes Dr. Eric Klopfer to campus on Tuesday, May 17 as the final installment in the program's four-part Seminar Series. Klopfer, associate professor and director of the MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program (STEP) and director of the Education Arcade, will discuss mobile learning and games. His talk will pay particular attention to Augmented Reality Gaming (ARG), and the implication for teaching, learning, and assessment, especially in K-12. He will also talk about ARG research, levels of gameness, and ways to develop ARG technology.

Klopfer's research focuses on the development and use of computer games and simulations to understand science and complex systems. His work combines research and development of games and simulations, from initial conceptualization, through implementation, piloting, professional development and end-user research.

Klopfer created StarLogo TNG, a platform that allows children to create 3D simulations and games using a graphical programming language. He also developed several mobile game platforms, including location-based Augmented Reality Games, among others. He is the author of "Augmented Learning," a book on handheld games and learning from MIT Press, and is co-author of the book "Adventures in Modeling: Exploring Complex, Dynamic Systems with StarLogo." He is a founding member of the Learning Games Network.

This event is free and open to the public, but requires registration to attend. The seminar takes place at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium at Bossone Research Center (3128 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104).
