Drexel University received a 2010-11 Gold Award from the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) for “optimizing technology to increase non-traditional student engagement and to bring co-curricular programs to students worldwide.”

The work of Drexel’s Office of Student Life figured prominently in attaining this award which honors originality, creativity, effective use of technology, innovative practical use of research and/ or assessment linked to learning outcomes, evidence of sustainability and quality of programs. An example cited was Goodwin College’s work with the Office of Student Life to increase student engagement and launch projects like the September 2010 Virtual Tea Orientation and upcoming Virtual Wine & Cheese Lecture Series made available to the students in 15 online and blended programs. Other initiatives included the Online First Year Experience, Creating Excellent Organizations (CEO) Leadership series and Second Life Luaus.

Additionally, the Office of Student Life works closely with the Office of the Provost so that students locally, regionally, nationally and globally are able to “virtually” participate in campus events such as convocation, presidential speeches and graduation through webcasts.
