Goodwin College’s Learning Technologies group has created a new way to discover the U.S. Constitution through a unique iPhone application. The National Constitution Center app gives users the ability to listen to audio tours from both the Center's main exhibition, the Story of We the People and Signer's Hall, as well as tours of special traveling exhibitions including the Center's current exhibition Art of the American Soldier. NCC app users will also have access to the Center's Newswire, which updates daily with constitutionally relevant news stories; a copy of the United States Constitution; a special preview of the Center's world renowned Freedom Rising show; and a live feed of the Center's Constitution blog.
The technical aspects of the NCC’s iPhone application were produced in Goodwin's Research and Demonstration (RaD) Lab, in partnership with the Drexel’s School of Education. The development process included the production of the video modules, recording and editing audio, creating the photo and graphical elements, and programming the iPhone application itself. Cory Schmitt, director of Learning Technologies, served as technical producer; Obinna Otti as project manager; Kristian Reid as video producer; and William McManus as graphic designer for the project.
The School of Education, a leader in educational technology, is capitalizing on mobile learning technologies to enhance curriculum, increase mobility, and build community among its students. In 2005, the School of Education began distributing iPods to its incoming students. Now, mobile devices play an integral role in research and instruction at the School; through the development of mobile resource portals, mobile surveying and location-based learning applications.
