Goodwin College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Penny Hammrich as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Education. Penny’s appointment follows a national search with an excellent pool of candidates.
Dr. Hammrich comes to Goodwin from Queens College of the City University of New York. As a tenured professor there, she was also the first permanent Dean of Education at Queens where she served as dean from 2003 through 2009. With a Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Hammrich began her teaching career at Temple where she garnered tenure and also served as Associate Dean for Research. At Queens, she held the academic positions of professor with tenure in Science Education at Queens, as well as Educational Psychology and Urban Education at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She was also director of the Center for the Improvement of Education, and founder and director of the Equity Studies Research Center.
As dean, she guided the college through two NCATE accreditations, designed and implemented an assessment system, added 25 new programs to the Division, and increased the research profile and reputation of the Division of Education as a leader in addressing urban issues in education. Over the last 12 years, Dr. Hammrich has been the PI/project director on more than 25 funded research grants. Her research focuses on providing avenues of success for disfranchised groups. Dr. Hammrich is also the founder and president of Sister in Science, LLC.
