Drexel student blogs from 2010 World Cup in South Africa, June 12, 2010

Thirteen Drexel students are currently attending one of the biggest sporting events in the world - the FIFA™ World Cup in South Africa. The students, accompanied by Sport Management professor Dr. Douglas Michele Turco, will be conducting field surveys in order to evaluate tourists and the economic impact of the World Cup on the host cities.

The group will travel to Cape Town, Durban, and Upington for two weeks. During their time there, they will attend two World Cup matches, visit tourist attractions, work with youth football programs, and participate in a food parcel distribution in an underprivileged community. They will be working side-by-side with students and faculty from the Centre for Tourism Research in Africa (CETRA), Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and the Youth and Sport Division for the city of Upington.

Laura Young, senior Communication major, is posting a daily blog, chronicling the group’s activities and experiences. The site, http://mobile.goodwin.drexel.edu/worldcup, will relay updated information on the group's whereabouts and activities, including all travel, cultural, and sporting experiences.
