Teacher Certification: Secondary Education
The School of Education's secondary education teacher certification programs are designed for individuals who seek to qualify for state teacher certification to teach middle and high school content.
The curriculum is structured to meet the requirements that lead to certification recommendations for:
- The Pennsylvania Instructional I Teacher Certification, which indicates to a school and/or school district that the candidate is fully certified
- The Pennsylvania Graduate Intern Certification, for those who wish to begin teaching in Pennsylvania prior to completing requirements for the PA Instructional I**
Both undergraduate and graduate pathways are available. The undergraduate teacher education program is the pathway taken for candidate who have some college experience, but do not yet possess a bachelor's degree.
Graduate teacher education programs are designed for those who recently obtained a bachelor's degree or career-changers who already minimally possess a bachelor's degree including those who already serve as temporary, emergency, or substitute teachers and wish to earn a formal teaching certification.

Ten content-specific areas of study are offered by the School of Education, each leading to their own certifications with required courses and Praxis exams:

- Social Studies
