High-performing undergraduate students majoring in an area other than education can pursue initial teacher certification as a component of the M.S. in Teaching, Learning and Curriculum-Teacher Certification or, if teacher certification is not desired, pursue their M.S. degree in one of the other graduate areas offered by the School.
The graduate course work of the B.S./M.S. program is provided in a blended format where the majority of course work is offered online and supplemented with classroom-based and work-based field experiences/graduate internships.
As an enrolled student, you will work closely with your SoE undergraduate and graduate advisors to ensure that all regular undergraduate and graduate course requirements are met.
M.S. Degree Options
Students in the School of Education's accelerated program pursuing a B.S. degree in a major other than education
have a wide variety of SoE graduate degree options from which to select. Please note, however, that the only master's
degree that will lead to a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate is the M.S. in Science of Instruction.
M.S. degree options in the B.S./M.S. program for students working toward a B.S. degree in a major other than education include:
Teacher Certification Notice and Primary Teacher Certification Options
Students in the School of Education's B.S./M.S. program pursuing a B.S. degree in another major other than
Education and wishing to satisfy requirements for a Pennsylvania teaching certificate must select the M.S. in
the Science of Instruction for the M.S. component of the program.
Such students have slightly different options to select from with regard to the selection of their primary teacher certification area. Due to mandated changes to Pennsylvania Department of Education state standards for teacher certification, the options listed below will be different if the student does not complete degree requirements for both their B.S./M.S. by DECEMBER 31, 2012. All B.S./M.S. students must remain in contact with the School of Education's advisor for the M.S. in the Science of Instruction degree program.
Primary teacher certification options in Drexel University's School of Education for B.S./M.S. students majoring in another area other than Education for their B.S. degree and in the M.S. in the Science of Instruction graduate program include:
NOTE: Special Education Teacher Certification also is available, but may not serve as a primary area of teacher certification. B.S./M.S. students wishing to complete requirements for Special Education Certification in additional to one of the other available primary areas of teacher certification will take required special education course work in lieu of professional and free electives in the M.S. in Science of Instruction degree program and must work closely with the M.S. program's advisor.
