(PHILADELPHIA—Sept. 10, 2012)—Last July, Drexel University’s Goodwin College partnered with PECO to bring a summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Camp to rising 5th-graders in the local Powelton Village and Mantua communities. (Read more about the camp and see photos here).
As a continuation of the STEM camp, Goodwin College has created Career Clubs. During STEM Camp, each student signed up for an industry-centered club. Based on his or her personal interest, each selected one club focusing on Construction, Communication, Energy, or Transportation.
The purpose of the Career Clubs is to encourage former STEM Camp students to identify STEM career areas of interest in middle school and continue to pursue them in high school. Students can now explore their industry of choice through the Career Clubs on a new website designed especially for the former campers.
The clubs will maintain continuous contact and academic support between students and club mentors during the academic year through periodic meetings, group activities, and e-communications. STEM Club professionals from the four industries represented will frequently update the website with current events and fun activities.
Starting in October, students are invited to check the website for fun and educational STEM activities that they can enjoy with their families and friends.
